Splinter Cell: Conviction is the fifth game in the Splinter Cell series. The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal, which also developed three franchise games for the sixth generation consoles.
The project was originally scheduled to be released on November 16, 2007, but has since suffered several delays. During E3, it was confirmed that the game will be released in the US still in 2009. Splinter Cell Conviction promises to bring a number of new features to the series; one of them is the “Mark and Run”, which will allow the player or an opponent to catch any object and fire it automatically, probably for distraction. The resource prioritizes the goals, for example, if the player enters a room with two enemies, a light and support the light, it will have as first target the light and then the enemies.
There is also the “Last Known Location”, which occurs when Sam is seen but leaves the enemy’s sight. This produces a silhouette outlining the last location where the enemy saw him, allowing him to change his actions to remain hidden. Other features include the ability to shoot while hanging, and interrogate enemies using the environment (like hitting someone’s head in a mirror, wall, or vehicle). The game also makes use of the visual resources; when the player is hidden in the shadows the image loses color to indicate this, while the enemies continue in colors so that the player can see them clearly.
Goals are posted on the walls, usually with the location to be followed, but cutscenes (non-interactive scenes) are still present to keep players immersed in the story. The character will not have many of the equipment he had in previous games, having to be more creative with what he has at his disposal. For example, instead of using the classic optical cable to look under the doors, the player will have to use a piece of broken mirror of his car.
